Help Us Help You

Are You Able to Help Us?

The AAWC, in conjunction with the Alliance of Wound Care Stakeholders, has submitted a change request to the National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) Editorial Board to remove Medicare edits that have been in place when billing for total contact casting, skin substitutes, compression and debridement service, in any combination on the same visit, especially when using the -59 modifier to define one distinct service from another.

The NCCI have responded to our request and is asking the Alliance for some examples of Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) bills of Part B services, where the MAC, fiscal intermediary or carrier denied the two services during the same visit, especially when using modifier -59.

Can you help, please? If you have an EOB that we can use to demonstrate the problem, please send it by December 5th to Tina Thomas at tthomas@aawconline.org with EOB in the subject line or fax to Tina’s attention at 610.560.0502, and we will collect the information and provide it back to the NCCI Panel.

Do you have questions about this? Please contact AAWC Regulatory Committee Chair, Peggy Dotson at peggy_dotson1@yahoo.com.

Thank you for any support you can provide.
